It may well be an ahistorical pastiche. For one, it’s unlikely that Melanchthon would have been an assistant at the Sacrament, as he was a layman. If I’m not mistaken, the kneeling communicant is Elector Joachim II of Brandenburg. The following picture shows him receiving communion as a Lutheran for the first time at the St. Nikolai Church in Spandau:
